Become a Published Author

Lodge Books also offers a publishing and proof reading service for those keen to see their work in print. Whether you've published your own work before, written a book and didn't know what to do next, or just always wanted to turn your hand to writing, this service is for you.

The service includes everything you need to take your work from manuscript to book shelf. We will proof read and prepare the manuscript, design the front and back covers, deal with ISBN assignment, and publication and printing. We will also arrange for your book to be made available worldwide on Amazon as a paperback or ebook, if required. In addition, we will promote your book here on the Lodge Books website and stock it in the shop.

If you would like more information on our publishing service, or would like to turn your manuscript into a published work then please send us an email or visit the shop.

FAQs

How much will it cost to publish my book?
As a guide, the cost of the publishing service will be in the region of £1.00 per page, but we will be able to give you a better idea once we have seen your manuscript.

How do I know if my book is worth publishing?
There is a lot of competition out there in the book market and so it is impossible to say how successful your book may be. Only you can decide whether to go ahead and find out if people want to read your work, and it’s up to you to write something that will make the reader want to turn the page, but we will work closely with you to improve the quality of the finished book by ensuring that the standard of English is good and that any errors and anomalies are rectified.

Do I need a proof read?
However careful we are, we all make mistakes, and it’s fair to say that the spellchecker is not always your friend. In order to produce a good quality book a proof read is a must, and during this process, although we do not provide the more advanced editing service, we will raise with you any issues that we feel may need re-visiting.
Below are just some of the books we have published.

What is an ISBN number and do I need one?
This is a 13-digit code and is the unique identifier for your book. If your book is for family and friends only, then this is not required. However, you will need an ISBN if you wish to sell your book in retail outlets in the high street and on the internet. This is provided free of charge.need one?

How long will it take to publish my book?
This will depend on the size of the book and the amount of work required to polish up the text and format pictures etc., and so this may take anything from two to six weeks. It will then take around one week to provide you with a proof copy of your book to review. Once any final amendments have been made, and a second proof provided if required, your book will be ready to buy.

Who owns the copyright?
The copyright to your book is 100% yours.

Can I buy copies of my book to sell myself, and is there a minimum order?
Yes, you can buy copies at cost price for you own personal use and/or to sell. You can order any number you want, but discounts are available for larger quantities, reducing your cost and increasing the profit on each book that you sell.

How do I sell my book?
Once your book has been published there are unfortunately no guarantees that people will buy it. And so, you will need to develop a strategy to bring your book to the attention of your target market, which may include persuading book shops to stock it, promoting it via social media, organising a book signing, and encouraging readers to provide online reviews.

We will assist in marketing your book to the extent of: producing an eye-catching cover based on your own ideas or our suggestions; featuring it on our website on your own author page; and stocking it in our book shop in Bridlington.
